The Mai Tai became popular in the early Nineteen Forties, in Oakland, California, at a place called Trader Vic’s. There… a visionary named Victor Bergron, one of the founders of this hotspot tiki bar, concocted this great drink that still holds aclaim today! 65 years is a good run for a cocktail. This one goes down in the books. Mai Tai translates from Tahitian to mean “Out of this World.” A fitting description for this cocktail. Over the years the recipe has changed greatly. Shown for you here today is the basic version of this entrenched classic. Mai Tai = 1 oz. Light Rum, 1 oz. Fresh lime Juice, 1 oz. Simple Syrup, 1 oz. Orgeat Syrup (Crème de Almond), 1 oz. Orange Curacoa and 1 oz. Dark Rum. Garnish with a wedge of pineapple and a cherry. Cheers!

Puportedly…. the strory goes that some mechanic, somewhere… used to enjoy these after work and he just happened to stir his cocktail with a screwdriver. That’s the story…

Pina Colada Cocktail Video Drink Recipe
Categories: Drink Videos - Tags: bartending, cocktail, Drink Recipe, martiniThe origins of the ‘original’ Pina Colada are as varied as it’s recipes. Depending on where you are and who the bartender is… you will get many, many different versions of this delicious drink. Puerto Rico is probably the place of origin… but when? It seems the recipe for the original recipe did NOT contain orange juice. That was my idea…. This recipe is a good usable version that has an inviting color and flavor because of the OJ. Cheers!
Old Fashioned Cocktail Video Drink Recipe
Categories: Drink Videos - Tags: bartending, cocktail, Drink Recipe, martiniThe first use of the specific name “Old Fashioned” was for a Bourbon whiskey cocktail in the 1880s, at the Pendennis Club, a gentleman’s club in Louisville, Kentucky. The recipe is said to have been invented by a bartender at that club, and popularized by a club member and bourbon distiller, Colonel James E. Pepper. The apparently earliest written recipe, from 1895, specifies the following: Dissolve a small lump of sugar with a little water in a whiskey-glass; add two dashes Angostura bitters, a small piece ice, a piece lemon-peel, one jigger or 1.5 ounces whiskey. Mix with small bar-spoon and serve, leaving spoon in glass.
My version is decidedly different and not necessarily ‘classic’. Shown in my video is what the modern drinker ‘expects’ in a good ‘old fashioned’. THIS IS NOT THE END ALL RECIPE, it’s just a very tasty drink that has evolved for 130 years. Cheers!
Mai Tai Cocktail Video Drink Recipe
Categories: Drink Videos - Tags: bartending, cocktail, Drink Recipe, martini“Maita’i” is the Tahitian word for “good.” It may have been invented at Trader Vic’s restaurant in Oakland, California in 1944. Trader Vic’s rival, Don the Beachcomber, claimed to have created it in 1933 at his bar and restaurant in Hollywood. Don the Beachcomber’s recipe is more complex than that of Vic and is a completely different experience. In the video shown is my version, since these are the products that you can actually find in a modern, high production bar. Cheers!

Lemon Drop Cocktail Video Drink Recipe
Categories: Drink Videos - Tags: bartending, cocktail, Drink Recipe, martiniThe drink is a lemon flavored delight that is decidedly strong with a hint of sweet and a zing of fresh lemon. This drink is usually favored by the ladies. Be careful. For a twist on the original recipe…perhaps try a ‘colored sugar’ rim on your martini glass. Oprah like these and she garnishes hers with mint leaves. Cheers!
